The Ultimate Black Hills Road Trip

We are certain that you have probably heard of the “big attractions” that are in the Black Hills of South Dakota that include Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, and Devil’s Tower. However, we wanted to give you more ‘insider tips’ on other locations that the Black Hills has to offer.

Starting in Deadwood, we recommend visiting Mount Moriah Cemetery. This historic cemetery includes Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and more.

Next, make your way to Mt. Roosevelt Memorial and Friendship Tower, which is located 2.5 miles from downtown Deadwood. This monument was created by Seth Bullock in memory of the friendship he had with President Theodore Roosevelt.

Before you leave, Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort is a necessary stop. Our full-service gaming and resort features luxurious accommodations, a newly renovated gaming floor, and memorable dining. Tin Lizzie is known as Deadwood’s most daring casino offering an unexpected gaming experience with the swankiest slots and table games, art deco décor, a la Gatsby, and various delectable dining options.

As you make your way through the Black Hills, drive through Bear Country U.S.A. for a guaranteed close-up view of wildlife. Next, Reptile Gardens is a great place for families and anyone who enjoys a variety of reptiles and more. With animals galore, you will have the time of your life as you take in Gator Wrestling, Bird Shows, as well as Snake Shows.

Did you know that there are two giant caves under the Black Hills that are managed by the National Park Service? Both Wind Cave and Jewel Cave are different, so you will want to do both tours if you have the time. The Badlands National Park is also a beautiful destination that is located an hour east of Rapid City. The scenery is very different than that of the Black Hills and is worth the trek.

The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs houses dozens of mammoth skeletons that were discovered at the site in the 1970’s. There are still current digs happening to this day, and if you are lucky, you will be able to see the discoveries in progress.

With attractions galore, you can’t go wrong with your visit to the Black Hills of South Dakota. With history and fun wrapped up in one, the Black Hills will make a vacation that you will never forget.
